Want to study marine science at leading marine research institutions AND live on the Great Barrier Reef?
Apply for an AIMS@JCU PhD Scholarship!
AIMS@JCU, a research collaboration between James Cook University and the Australian Institute of Marine Science, two of the world's most eminent tropical marine research institutions, is seeking postgraduate students. AIMS@JCU will offer up to five scholarships for domestic or international PhD students commencing in 2012. Scholarships will be competitive and recipients will undertake high quality research in the field of marine science. AIMS@JCU scholarships will include stipends (at the Australian Postgraduate Award level) and $5,000 per annum for project costs or scholarship top-ups (to be agreed upon by student and supervisors). Projects must be jointly supervised by scientists from both institutions. Fields of research are open but should fall within areas of strength of the two partner institutions. This includes but is not limited to:
| Field of Research | Staff |
|---|---|
| Climate change and ocean acidification | Ken Anthony, Phil Munday, Madeleine van Oppen, Bette Willis, Timothy Clark, Nicole Webster |
| Coastal Ecology | Richard Brinkman |
| Coral reef ecology | Julian Caley, Ken Anthony, Timothy Clark |
| Ecophysiology (particularly with reference to finfish and/or aquaculture) | Guy Carton, Igor Pirozze, Timothy Clark |
| Elasmobranch biology and ecology | Colin Simpfendorfer |
| Movement ecology of fishes | Michelle Heupel |
| Marine chemistry | Walt Dunlap, Andreas Lopata, Michael Oelgemöller |
| Marine climate research | Ken Anthony, Phil Munday, Timothy Clark |
| Marine mammal conservation | Helene Marsh |
| Marine microbiology, molecular tools | Bette Willis, Lone Hoj, Nicole Webster |
| Oceanography | Richard Brinkman, Craig Steinberg |
| Population genetics and coral reef connectivity | Vimoksalehi Lukoschek, Madeleine van Oppen |
| Tropical aquaculture | Mike Hall, Paul Southgate, Chaoshu Zeng, Andreas Lopata, Lone Hoj, Michael Oelgemöller |
| Statistical modelling of marine biodiversity | Aaron MacNeil |
